Hi Ticky, so sorry to hear of the frustrating experience you’ve been having!

Sorry for the confusion, our pads don’t contain toilet-training attractants. They’re designed to provide a reusable, absorbent and leak-proof toilet surface, but puppies still need to be taught that the pad is where they should go to the toilet.

The primary way to teach them is to take your puppy to the pad every time they are likely to pee - i.e. right after waking up or eating or playing, or just if they haven't peed for more than a couple of hours! Stay with them there for several minutes and reward them immediately with treats and praise when they pee on the pad. If they don’t pee within a few minutes, let them leave and try again a short while later - but keep a close eye on them. If they show any signs of wanting to pee (e.g. sniffing the ground and circling), quickly move them to the pee pad. If you see them doing an accident on the floor, immediately pick them up and move them to the pad, so they learn to associate the pad with toileting.

Toilet-training may seem like a never-ending challenge while you’re in it 🥹 but pups will get the hang of it!

As our pads are washable, we don’t apply any attractant compounds to the fabric as it would wash out in the machine. We are not aware of clear evidence that a built-in attractant would remain effective through repeated washing. But if you're keen to try an attractant, you can purchase a toilet-training spray to apply to the pads between washes.

The sprays generally mimic urine-related scent cues, so another idea is to use the surface of the pad to soak up some of your dog’s own pee if they have an accident on the floor. Dogs often prefer to toilet in areas that already carry the scent of urine, so this can be helpful to encourage them to go on the pad next time.

However, there is no product or method that is guaranteed to automate toilet-training. Some dogs may respond better to the scent method than others. Some puppies take a little longer to learn, but with consistency and positive reinforcement they will catch on!

We want every customer to be happy with their purchase, so if you’re still having trouble please don’t hesitate to reach out at hello@pipcopets.com.au and we will definitely work out a solution with you! ❤️

Thank you so much for your review, Jackie! We are really glad to hear you’ve loved the pads 💕

After around a year of use some gradual wear is possible, but based on how often you’re rotating and washing yours, we wouldn’t expect a significant loss of absorbency just yet.

Sometimes detergent residue or fabric softener can build up in the fabric layers over time and reduce how well they wick and hold liquid. We recommend avoiding fabric softener completely and using the minimum amount of detergent recommended on the detergent label for a given load size.

To dissolve out any excess residues in the fibres, try running the pads on a hot wash cycle without any detergent at all.

I hope this helps, please let us know how you go! You can always reach us at hello@pipcopets.com.au.
